EchoesəvYourFace is an interactive art installation by Hani Kim and Luca Franceschi, a duo of bellicose tech-savvy artists and researchers based in Berlin.
Three abstract paintings, 'Fragments I, II, III', take on new forms with every interaction. Participants' facial expressions shape the artwork by activating lighting sequences that illuminate the canvas. The AI analyses the emotions detected in each viewer’s face and triggers dynamic lighting effects, altering the visual experience with each interaction. The lighting varies in color, speed, movement, and the areas it illuminates on the canvas, offering fresh interpretations each time.
Beyond identifying primary emotions, the AI subtly incorporates secondary emotions, such as traces of surprise in a happy expression, allowing for nuanced combinations in the light sequences. When multiple viewers engage with the installation, their combined emotions create a more layered, complex visual experience.
This interplay between lighting and emotion ensures that the paintings are never static. They are continuously reshaped by the emotional input of those who interact with it, how the AI model detects the emotions, and the hand designed lighting sequences algorithmically mixed.
